Our approach to environmental preservation allows us to identify unique opportunities, implement innovative initiatives, and drive strong results that reduce our environmental footprint. When it was created, the program began the process of tracking and managing our energy, water, and waste impact. Today, we have sophisticated and reliable systems in place that allow us to collect detailed information that we analyze and share with our operational teams and the relevant agencies in the cities where we do business and take a comprehensive approach to determine which projects to implement to improve our performance over time.
As a company with hotels across the U.S., we see ourselves as local members of each community where we do business. We believe the communities we serve are integral to our long-term success. Our associates volunteer as mentors to future leaders, clean up parks and waterways, and provide items for food and clothing drives. Since 2015, HHM Hotels' associates have volunteered over 20,300 hours in our local communities.
We believe being responsible stewards of our communities and environment is an integral part of maintaining and building a successful business. HHM Hotels is able to drive incremental value through energy and water savings initiatives with measurable and timely returns. We continually evaluate the potential for portfolio-wide energy savings initiatives such as energy-efficient lighting, guest room energy management systems, and other projects that can reduce our energy usage and create financial savings.
Providing Life-Sustaining Water to Communities Around the World
We teamed up with Waterboys.org to provide water to those in need. For each purchase of one of our private-label water bottles, we donate $1 to clean water projects. Our 100% recycled water bottles are sold at select HHM Hotels locations. Waterboys.org is an initiative by The Chris Long Foundation with a mission to provide life-sustaining water and sanitation to communities in East Africa. Since its launch in 2015, the organization has supported the creation of over 115 wells, providing water to over 490,000 people.
Life-Saving Soap Distributed to Children and Families in Need
There are populations around the world where two of the top five leading causes of death are hygiene-related diseases, particularly in children. Through our partnership with Clean the World, HHM Hotels collects partially used soaps and sends them to Clean the World, where they sanitize and distribute new bars of soap to communities in need. Since the beginning of our partnership with Clean the World, our hotel donations have created over 583,000 new bars of life-saving soap distributed to children and families in need.
Honoring Our Roots Through Service
HHM Hotels observes Founders’ Day each year to recognize Hasu and Hersha Shah, whose first hotel in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, sparked the growth of a company now spanning destinations across three countries. In tribute to their legacy, teams across our hotels and offices take part in a company-wide community service initiative. Guided by our Hearts That Serve value, these efforts—from food drives to neighborhood cleanups—reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work.
